Fremontodendron californicum

This fast-growing evergreen shrub is a native of California. It grows up to 15 feet tall and 12 feet wide, and has grey-green leathery leaves year round. The beautiful flowers are 2-3 inches across and a brilliant yellow.

Fremontodendron californicum requires a site in full sun and very good drainage. It can be trained up a wall or trellis. If you grow it as a free-standing bush or tree, it will need some staking when young because of its shallow roots. Zones 8 and above.
