Salvia penstemonoides

Big Red Sage

Sorry! No longer available.

This wildflower from Texas has low, semi-evergreen foliage and large (1-inch) purple-red flowers that bloom in the late summer. A mature plant can be up to 5 feet tall, but is generally shorter (3 feet) in mild winter areas. Its native habitat is limestone rock croppings, so it grows well in soil enriched with oyster shells or lime. Hardy to 20ºF.
