This elusive rock-garden plant is a native of the Rockies, where
it thrives in limestone outcroppings and cool crevices.
Tidy and diminutive, it grows up to only 3-4 inches.
The large royal-blue flowers bloom in June-July and hover an inch or two above a
dense rosette of green-grey leaves.
Does best in well-drained soil, in a sheltered area where it is protected from wet winters.
Zone 4.
